Patrick Doyle’s Claims About ValueJet Staff and KWAM 1
Veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle has recently made headlines with his comments regarding the incident involving Fuji music legend King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, known as KWAM 1, and ValueJet airline staff at Abuja airport. In a social media post, Doyle suggested that celebrities often face targeted behavior from individuals who hold personal grudges against them.
Doyle shared his own experience at Asaba airport, which he believes illustrates how public figures can be manipulated by airport workers. He recounted an instance where a check-in attendant refused to allow him to board with his hand luggage, even though it was only slightly over the weight limit. According to him, the attendant recognized him as a celebrity and deliberately made the situation difficult.
The Incident at Abuja Airport
The controversy began when KWAM 1 was reportedly barred from boarding a ValueJet flight due to a flask suspected of containing alcohol. The incident escalated when KWAM 1 allegedly stood in front of the aircraft in protest. This led to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) banning him from flying within Nigeria.
Doyle, however, believes there is more to the story. He claims that the airline staff may have intentionally provoked KWAM 1 to create a public spectacle. “They were hoping he’d lose it,” Doyle stated in his post, suggesting that such incidents are not uncommon for celebrities.
Personal Experience and Public Reaction
Doyle explained that while he understands the frustration of being treated unfairly, he also recognizes that some staff members might take pleasure in humiliating celebrities. He described a scenario where a service personnel would deliberately cause a disturbance to provoke a reaction. “Next thing I know, this service personnel from hell decides to give me a tough time… Then there would be a shouting match, and I would be in breach of airport protocol, and she would have bragging rights that she humiliated that ‘useless’ Patrick Doyle.”
Despite this, Doyle does not entirely blame KWAM 1 for his actions. He admits that even he has lost his temper in similar situations but emphasizes the importance of patience and self-restraint gained through age and experience.
Public Response to Doyle’s Comments
Doyle’s comments have sparked mixed reactions among netizens. Some criticized his perspective, questioning whether his experience justifies his accusations. One user wrote, “So because she didn't let you carry an obvious overweight hand luggage, which you tried to buy your way through but didn't work, suddenly makes her a personnel from hell? Come down from your high horse, sir!”
Others expressed differing opinions on the treatment of celebrities. A user noted, “If they give u VIP courtesy great and good… if they no give u VIP courtesy do Wetin everybody dy do.” Another commented on what they perceive as entitlement, stating, “Something really wrong with this Doyle guy, too much ENTITLEMENT SYNDROME. Let’s learn to follow rules where public services are involved or else fly private.”
KWAM 1's Perspective
In addition to Doyle’s comments, KWAM 1’s friend, Bolaji Basia, has also spoken about the incident. In a post shared by Stella Dimoko, Basia explained why KWAM 1 carries water everywhere he goes. He recalled an incident where a doctor advised the singer to drink more water for health reasons.
While the details of the Abuja airport incident remain unclear, the debate around how celebrities are treated in public spaces continues to generate discussion. Whether it is a matter of personal grudges, miscommunication, or systemic issues, the incident highlights the complex dynamics between public figures and service providers.
