The chief executive of Joy Industries, Manfred Takyi, has sparked controversy on social media following his declaration that he would not grieve the late musician Daddy Lumba.

Takyi claimed that Lumba owed him money and a vehicle due to a failed agreement, something he was unwilling to overlook.

Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely recognized as Daddy Lumba, was announced to have passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

He is said to have become unwell in the early morning and was taken to the Bank Hospital, situated in Cantonments, Accra.

Not long after being admitted, the highlife icon is said to have passed away.

Reports of his passing brought sorrow to social media, with everyday Ghanaians, stars, and political figures expressing their grief over the singer's death.

Numerous well-known Ghanaians also paid visits to his family to convey their sympathy regarding Lumba's passing.

Joy Industries' chief executive responds to the passing of Daddy Lumba

The head of Joy Industries, a Ghanaian-based manufacturing firm that creates alcoholic beverages and other items, has declined to participate in the mourning for Daddy Lumba.

On a post published on his Facebook page on Monday, July 28, 2025, Manfred Takyi requested the public to cease pressuring him to deliver a statement conveying his sorrow regarding the passing of the highlife icon.

He mentioned that Daddy Lumba owed him money and a vehicle following an endorsement agreement they entered into, which he failed to fulfill.

I will never pretend...so don't expect any message from me....He still owes us....Cash and Toyota Tundra #fundraising,he wrote.

Daddy Lumba's conflict with Manfred Takyi

During an interview with actress Akuapem Poloo in 2022, Takyi shared insights into the roots of his conflicts with Daddy Lumba.

He mentioned that they had entered into sponsorship contracts with numerous celebrities, yet they had declined to fulfill their part of the deals.

Takyi stated that Daddy Lumba was given both money and a vehicle to appear at a series of events supporting the company, but did not meet his responsibilities.

"Many celebrities are indebted to us as I speak right now. Daddy Lumba took our money and a customised Tundra to perform shows with the brand, but the unfortunate news is that he failed to fulfill even half of his responsibilities, and it's very disappointing," he said.

Candlelit protest in honor of Daddy Lumba has been announced

Previously, zaia news.ghIt was reported that a ceremony in honor of Daddy Lumba is being organized after his passing.

The Creative Arts Agency stated that the candlelight ceremony is scheduled for August 2, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.

The gathering will take place from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM and is accessible to everyone, with an invitation for people to come and express their grief over the loss of the icon.
