How Soccer Stars Could Dominate Wrestling

A wrestling organization known forstarting the professional journeys of John Cena, Randy Orton and others are looking to UK sports to discover the next great wrestler.

WWElegend Al Snow's Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), which was the focus of acclaimedNetflixThe docu-series Wrestlers is introducing a new program on our soil to uncover the next big star in sports entertainment.

The firm aims to inspire footballers, rugby players, and other athletes in the UK to pursue a career in boxing, following stars from basketball, gymnastics, and theNFLand many others have made the move in the United States.

Speaking exclusively to zaia news, the 61-year-old star issues a strong caution to those considering it will be a straightforward experience.

It's much easier to be part of the World Cup soccer team than to be on the main roster in WWE,' he stated. 'Consider the number of players on the team. Think about the number of teams now—what are your chances?

Consider the quantity of wrestlers present on WWE's primary roster. Consider the number of individuals who desire to be in that position, and now consider the chances.

OVW has recently been acquired by the UK-based sports agency Morley Sports Management (MSM), which also owns the Cymru Premier football team Haverfordwest County AFC. The company plans to begin accepting its first group of trainees from football and rugby in the UK in 2026.

Rob Edwards, the founder and CEO of MSM, stated: 'We are fully aware that there is talent present in the UK – especially within football – and the opportunities that OVW offer could provide numerous athletes with another chance.'

Would you like to sign up for the OVW Academy?

Anyone who is keen on receiving training at the OVW Academy canapply here.

They won't be the first, with former Werder Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese and rugby league player-turned-WWE superstar Ridge Holland among those who made the change.

Tim didn't manage to leave a mark, whereas Ridge has experienced a fluctuating career – but he entered with the mindset of a fan, showing 'respect for the industry'.

"That makes a significant difference," hetold zaia newsin 2022, 'Athletes often possess a certain level of self-confidence... You've been a leading athlete in your particular sport, and then you need to begin from the ground up.'

You need to simply lower your pride, get to work diligently, and pay attention, strive hard, and face each day as it arrives.

What might the athletes be anticipating?

'At the very start, concentrating on the basics, just like any real sport,' the former WWE European Champion explained.

I cannot stress enough how significant that factor is in their growth, overall performance, consistency, and their capacity to reduce the risk of injury.

Al is fully aware of the physical toll that a wrestling career can take, as he had both knees replaced a few years back due to severe pain.

I wake up every day in discomfort," he said. "Before the replacements, it was so intense that often I would be drained by midday, and I had to lie down just to catch some rest.

Not everyone can handle the pressure, as Al remembered working with a 'kickboxer, a multi-black belt in Taekwondo' who also engaged in 'cross country biking' and other sports.

He survived for a week," he said. "I've been handling this for a long time. I've been training individuals at various levels and observed athletes transitioning from other sports.

Individuals from outside the industry frequently arrive with assumptions, only to soon discover the "physical effort and level of dedication" required.

"A lot of them say, 'You know what? That's it. I'm done,' " he shrugged.

He also rejected the notion that anyone other than the wrestler themselves is responsible for a lack of success.

Wrestlers create their own stardom. I know wrestlers would love for you to think it's someone else's fault for their failures," he laughed. "They're more than happy to take credit when it comes to their achievements.

What will Al primarily seek when beginning to recruit from football and rugby?

You don't need to resemble a bodybuilder. All you have to do is appear as if you earn your livelihood in a competitive combat scenario. That's all," he said. "I don't believe that's too much to ask.

Additionally, there is the psychological aspect, where personality is nearly more crucial than possessing the correct appearance, charm, or abilities.

"If you're a cancer and you're going to be a hindrance, believe me, you're not worth it," he stated plainly.

Al is knowledgeable, having worked with formerWWE Champions Cody Rhodesand The Miz in the early stages of their wrestling careers, with the latterarriving at wrestling via reality television.

They didn't make it simple for him in the locker room," he remembered. "Everything he has achieved, he has worked for.

That doesn't imply that training with OVW, or even reaching the spotlight of WWE, will bring happiness to all. There will still be more effort required.

"There are several of my children who are still in WWE that, if I were to pick up the phone right now, you would only hear them complaining for two hours," he said.

They believe that once they arrive, the work ends and they will be content. No!

Currently, the pressure, the stress - the actual work starts.
