Bachelor's Dilemma: When to Settle?

Diary,

Have you heard of the traditional concept of the female biological clock? It's a common way to explain how a woman's ability to conceive naturally decreases as she gets older. This process starts in the late teens and early twenties, and becomes more pronounced in the thirties. By the time a woman reaches 45, natural pregnancy becomes much less likely because of a reduction in both the number and quality of eggs.

Oh, how society has turned this natural occurrence into a weapon. Women are often pressured into marriage when their biological clock is at its peak and viewed as outcasts once they pass the age of 30. In recent years, the stigma has lessened, allowing women to focus on their careers before starting a family. This is a benefit for those of us who remain single.

Many people overlook the fact that men also possess a biological clock that can influence their fertility and the well-being of their children. Sperm quality typically starts to decrease around the ages of 40 to 45, and older fathers are linked to higher chances of challenges in getting pregnant, miscarriages, and specific birth abnormalities. Therefore, yes. If your partner is in his 40s, it's possible he may be experiencing reduced fertility.

Oh, the easygoing times, when nature controlled our existence. These days, it's not as straightforward. Smoking, alcohol, drugs, medicines... All of these and more have messed up the timepieces. The standard of today's younger generation has definitely declined. But what can I do? You can't smoke weed, chew tobacco ormuguka 24/7 and anticipate the emergence of new Ngugi wa Thong’os or Grace Ogots.

It might not be the main reason I don't want children, but it's definitely a major one. These days, children are entirely different. They show little respect for older people from a very early age. They talk back to their elders and don't stop their games to let them go by. Like thoughtless machines, they even play games involving moving cars.

Once they reach adulthood, they lack interest in hard work. I'm referring to an entire generation that believes they will become famous through social media and never need to work honestly. I don't intend to criticize all young people. In fact, I know a few who can match my intelligence in just a brief conversation, but that doesn't justify the majority.

The cause of this negative outburst is that, all I've discussed has made me reflect. I'm getting close to 40, and considering the efforts I've undergone with my reproductive system, my chance of having a reasonably regular child is quickly disappearing. I worry that I may have squandered all my Ali Mazruis and what remains are only wild Wanugus. If there's ever been a moment I should be persuaded to have children, it's now.

However, the required system is still not in place. It's not simple to be honest and inform a woman that while I don't want a long-term relationship, I am willing to have a child who I would raise from a distance. Oh, hold on. That would essentially require an 18-year commitment, wouldn't it?

Boy, am I doomed.
