Rebecca Romijn, who is set to reprise her role as Mystique in next year's Avengers: Doomsday, indicates that the script is not yet "complete," even though production has already begun.
Production started on Marvel's large-scale, highly costly Avengers: DoomsdayIn April this year, directors Anthony and Joe Russo were working quickly to prepare the film for a December 2026 release. The production has already been underway for several weeks, but according to a well-known member of the large cast, the script is still being written while filming takes place.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at Comic Con (via Collider), actor Rebecca Romijn attended to promoteStar Trek: Uncharted New Worlds. When questioned about her part inAvengers: Doomsday, however, Romijn, who is returning as Mystique from theX-Men movies, expressed uncertainty.
She not only mentioned she was "not entirely certain" if the Russos had shot all her scenes, but also stated, "They [the screenwriters] haven't completed the script. They keep everything confidential to maintain secrecy."
Everything about Avengers: Doomsdayis massive. As Marvel demonstrated when itspend a day shooting a collection of chairs, its ensemble is extensive. Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor, accompanied by the cast of this year’sThunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four, many actors from 20th Century FoxX-Men films, along with an excessive number of other superheroes that can't all be listed.
The budget is massive – estimated to be approximately $300 million or higher, with a significant portion already spent before any filming took place. Robert Downey Jr., making a return to the Marvel universe as Doctor Doom, was lured in with a payment of $80 million.

Amidst all this, it falls to credited screenwriters Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely to develop a narrative that gives these characters something to do—even if it's merely appearing for a single-line appearance. And should Romijn's statements be truthful, some of this writing is being done spontaneously.
This is not always uncommon for Marvel, or Hollywood films in general.Iron Manwas revised during production, and Marvel executive Kevin Feige has recentlytalkedregarding his tendency to recommend changes to films while they are being made
Some directors have expressed a degree of fatigue related to filming without a completed script, though.Director Gareth Edwards, who proposed several years back that his initial studio films,Godzilla and Rogue One,started without a finished script, he said he was motivated to create this year'sJurassic World Rebirthbecause David Koepp's script was prepared for filming. Similarly, James Gunn, who left Marvel to lead DC Studios and directSuperman, recently mentioned in an episode of Video Club onYouTube, "The script must always be completed first."
As for Kevin Feigesaid At a recent press conference, Marvel stated, "We have never begun a movie without a complete script, and I have never been content with a script we've had," but acknowledged that enhancements are frequently made during the filming process — or what he refers to as "plussing."
