Rising Stars from Kimberley Equestrian Centre Shine on National Stage

Two young riders from the Kimberley Equestrian Centre (KEC) have made a significant impact in national competitions during July, showcasing the power of dedication, skill, and strong partnerships with their horses. Their performances have not only brought recognition to the Northern Cape but also highlighted the growing prominence of equestrian talent in the region.

Sian Snyman and Madison Kemp, both passionate and skilled equestrians, participated in multiple competitions across South Africa, competing against top riders and achieving remarkable results. Their success has firmly established Kimberley on the national equestrian map.

Sian Snyman's Triumph in Johannesburg

At just 16 years old, Sian Snyman traveled to Johannesburg to represent the Free State at the prestigious South African Youth Championships. Competing with her thoroughbred, Woza Silvano, she took part in both Dressage and Show Jumping disciplines.

In Dressage, Sian was part of the Free State Novice Dressage Team, which secured second place overall, narrowly missing out on gold to Gauteng. However, it was in Show Jumping where Sian truly excelled. She competed in the 80cm Individual Show Jumping class against 72 riders from across the country. Her performance was consistently impressive, starting with 14th place in the first round, followed by two consecutive fourth-place finishes. The margins between first and sixth were incredibly tight, highlighting her precision and control.

Additionally, Sian was part of the Free State Provincial Show Jumping Team, which again claimed second place, just behind Gauteng. Her achievements underscore her potential as a rising star in the equestrian world.

Madison Kemp Claims Top Honors

While Sian was competing in Johannesburg, Madison Kemp traveled to Parys for the Boerperd National Championships. She and her trusted Boerperd, Calela Cyprus, made a lasting impression throughout the event.

The week-long competition began with Dressage, where Madison and Cyprus placed second in Prelim 1, third in Prelim 2, and earned the title of Prelim Reserve Champion. Cyprus then moved into the Open Classes, where she partnered with Simoné Jacobsz, daughter of the horse’s breeder, to win the “Geldings over 5 years” division and be named Champion of the Class.

Madison returned to compete in age-specific classes: “Rider Under-13” and “Children’s Horse Under-13,” finishing as Reserve Champion in both. These accomplishments earned her a spot in the elite “Champion of Champions” finale. In a highly competitive field, she and Cyprus delivered an outstanding performance, ultimately being crowned Champion of Champions—the highest honor of the event.

Dominating at SANESA Finals

After their successes in Johannesburg and Parys, Sian and Madison traveled to Bloemfontein for the Northern Cape/Free State SANESA Finals. Their performances continued to impress, earning them multiple podium finishes.

Sian competed in six classes, securing first place in the Show Jumping 70cm Competition, Show Jumping 70cm Accumulator, and Equitation. She also took second place in Dressage Novice 2 and Novice Freestyle, and third in Dressage Novice 3—a remarkable achievement.

Meanwhile, Madison remained focused and composed, earning two first places in Dressage Prelim 2 and Dressage Prelim 3, along with a second place in Performance Riding Level 1. Her consistency and calm demeanor left the judges thoroughly impressed.

A Bright Future Ahead

The exceptional results achieved by Sian and Madison are a testament to their hard work, training, and support from their families, coaches, and the Kimberley Equestrian Centre. The KEC has become a hub for local equestrian excellence, nurturing young talent and fostering a competitive spirit.

The Centre is set to host a Cross Country Open Day event on Friday, August 9, from 3pm. The public is invited to witness these rising stars and other competitors in action. With riders like Sian Snyman and Madison Kemp leading the way, the future of equestrian sports in the Northern Cape looks promising. Their achievements not only reflect personal growth but also inspire others to pursue excellence in the sport.
