Earlier this year, Phil Collins revealed he has been ‘very sick’However, despite rumors, he has stated that he is not in a hospice – but is currently hospitalized.
Last week proved to be a tough time for music lovers with the passing of the legendaryOzzy Osbourne and jazz legend Chuck Mangione, as well as a wrestlerHulk Hogan.
Social mediawas filled with rumors regarding Phil's health, including a claim that he was in a hospice (typically for those who are terminally ill), which quickly circulated among fans.
Worries about the 74-year-old artist have been increasing since he officially stepped down in 2022 afterGenesis’ farewell show.
Phil's representative has tried to ease concerns about the Genesis drummer'shealth, assuring TMZHe is "far from dying."
Instead, the legend of "You'll Be in My Heart" is in the hospital for a knee operation — not receiving hospice care at all.
The representative provided no information regarding the knee procedure, although this is not Phil's first surgical experience.
In 2007, the In The Air Tonight hitmaker experienced a spinal injury, leading to his ongoing battle withserious nerve injury and worsening movement ability.
He suffered from neck vertebrae displacement during his tour with Genesis, but following two operations — in 2009 and 2015 — Phil needed to use a cane.
The injury caused a loss of feeling in his hands, which meant that by 2019, he could no longer grip drumsticks and was forced to stop playing.
Additionally, in 2021, the Hall of Famer disclosed that he also suffers from diabetes, which further impacted his health.
Speaking to Mojo magazineIn their April edition, he stated: 'I keep wondering if I should go down to the studio and find out what occurs.'
But I don't crave it anymore. The truth is, I've been ill, I mean extremely ill.
Although Phil may not be eager to create new music, he didtake a seat at a drum kit after 15 years of absencewith the assistance of his son,Nic Collins.
He received recognition in a documentary titled "Drummer First," which delved into the life and impact of the creator of the "Against All Odds" hit as a drummer.
In the documentary trailer, he said: 'It's still somewhat settling in... I've spent my entire life playing drums. To suddenly be unable to do that is a shock.'
If I'm unable to perform as I once did, I'd prefer to take a break and do nothing. If there comes a day when I can grip a pair of drumsticks, I'll give it a try.
‘I just feel like I've exhausted my frequent flyer points. It just feels very odd to hold a pair.
Phil was last seen in public in May.When he backed his son, Mathew, 20, at a soccer game. He is part of WSG Tirol II, the junior development team of the Austrian club WSG Tirol.
Matthew stood with his dad in the stands of the club's stadium, with the younger Collins family member still wearing his green jersey while Phil chose a cozy fleece.
The caption stated, "Two major victories today!" suggesting that his father's presence was significant despite the drummer's worsening condition.
