Ministry of Information Opens Media Council of Kenya Vacancies with New Requirements

The Department of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, headed by Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau, has revealed four openings for member roles within the Media Council of Kenya.

An ad featured in the government newspaper, MyGov, on Tuesday, July 29, stated that applicants need to fulfill the criteria outlined in Chapter Six of the Kenyan Constitution, 2010.

"Eligible applicants are encouraged to submit their applications for the position. The applications will be sent to the selection committee as per section 7(3) of the act within seven days from the date this notice is published," the ministry said.

What are the criteria for applicants?

Applicants should be nationals of Kenya.

Candidates must have a qualification from a recognized university within the nation.

Professionals are required to possess a minimum of 10 years of expertise and background in the following fields:

  • Law.
  • Journalism.
  • Finance.
  • Gender and human rights.
  • Performing arts.
  • Advertising.
  • Public relations.
  • Religious studies.
  • Communication.
  • Humanities and social sciences.
  • Information Technology (IT).

The government urged women, individuals with disabilities, and those from minority and underrepresented communities to apply.

What is the procedure to apply for MCK positions?

A complete resume, along with copies of relevant professional and academic qualifications, references, and additional supporting documents, must be submitted with every application, whether online or printed.

The digital form needs to be submitted along with scanned documents.

Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport or national identity card.

"Physical applications must be submitted in person at the reception desk located on the 10th Floor of Teleposta Towers, situated on Koinange Street. Electronic applications should be sent via email to moictjobs@information.go.ke," the notice stated.

As per section 7(7) of the Media Council Act, the names of all applicants and individuals on the shortlist will be published on the Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology's website, in the Kenya Gazette, and in at least two widely circulated daily newspapers.

Who will not qualify?

Members of Parliament (MPs) or the County Assembly (MCAs) cannot hold these positions.

Other individuals who will be ineligible include members of a political party, financially insolvent Kenyans, and those who have been found guilty of a serious crime.

You will also face disqualification if you have been removed from your position due to breaching the Constitution or any other written law.

In other news, the Public Service Commission has initiated the hiring of interns across various disciplines under a one-year agreement.

The PSC set a deadline for submitting academic credentials and gave eligible candidates an overview of the application procedure.
