- More than three years ago, Vincent Muli Kituku observed helplessly as his father passed away in a hospital bed due to insufficient facilities.
- That event inspired him to improve the healthcare situation in the region so that another person doesn't face the same issue.
- Currently, Kituku is the owner of a hospital that provides medical services to residents in Kangundo, Matungulu, and numerous other regions both within and outside of Machakos county.
In May 2022, Vincent Muli Kituku entered Kangundo Level Four Hospital, yet he had no idea he would leave with a shattered heart and a life-altering purpose.
What started as a routine visit to his ailing father evolved into a motivation to establish one of the finest hospitals in Kangundo sub-county, stemming from sorrow and resolve.
Why did a man from Machakos invest in a hospital?
Kituku told zaia news.co.keIn an exclusive interview, he revealed that after observing his father's last days in a hospital without gloves, without medication, and with patients held due to unpaid bills, he made a promise to transform the healthcare system in the region.
"Patients were left without care and ignored; there were no gloves, no saline, no IVs. The hospital lacked medication; patients had to visit the local town's pharmacy, purchase the medicine, and then administer it to the hospital. The facility did not provide food for those staying overnight. There was no water available for toilet flushing and no alternative power source," he said.
"The washing machine and dryer were not working. One evening, there was a power outage, and I inquired about what would happen to patients, particularly those relying on their electrical life support systems. The response I received was horrifying," he added.
Kituku mentioned he observed helplessly as other patients, including his father, endured pain quietly.
Overwhelmed with sorrow, he settled multiple patients' debts, purchased provisions and medical supplies, covered the cost of fixing the generator, and acquired a fresh washing machine and dryer to substitute the faulty one.
Nevertheless, this was only the start. Without any medical training, he started to reflect seriously on the struggles of the underprivileged, particularly students, mothers, and the elderly who couldn't afford to look for improved care elsewhere.
"How many more are passing away quietly due to lack of adequate treatment or the inability to travel to Nairobi?" he questioned.
Following the loss of other family members to comparable issues and witnessing students from his school endure inadequate and delayed care, Kituku realized a change was necessary.
When did Ngoo Sya Wendo Healthcare Clinic commence operations?
In June 2024, slightly more than a year following his father's death, he acquired a house featuring nine rooms located on the Kangundo-Tala Road. On December 15, the Ngoo Sya Wendo Healthcare Clinic commenced operations.
He mentioned that the facility assists thousands of residents from Kangundo, Matungulu, and also extends its services beyond Machakos county.
It includes a complete set of facilities such as a pharmacy, dental services, X-ray, ultrasound, orthopedic trauma care, and minor surgeries, along with 24/7 ambulance support, and various other services.
"We do not focus on making profits; instead, we assist God's people, which is why our consultations are free and treatments are cost-effective. We give priority to the elderly and students," he explained.
Kituku mentioned that among the challenges he had listed were opposition from public health officials and financial obstacles, yet faith has remained his guiding force.
In the future, he plans to transform the clinic into a complete hospital featuring maternity departments, inpatient services, and additional specialized care units, all while keeping the patient's dignity as the primary focus.
"The finest way to pay tribute to those who have passed is to live in a manner that reflects the value of their lives. This facility serves as a symbol of affection, created from sorrow, and maintained by a clear objective," he stated.zaia news.co.ke.
